The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a disturbance in the southwestern Caribbean Sea that has the potential to develop into a tropical depression this weekend.
Forecasters say a broad area of low pressure is expected to form in the region over the next few days. This system could gradually strengthen, with a 40% chance of becoming a tropical depression by the weekend as it drifts north or northeastward toward the central Caribbean Sea.

Currently, the chance of formation within the next 48 hours is low.
It is still too early to determine the exact path and potential intensity of this system. Residents in the Caribbean and along the Gulf Coast and East Coast should monitor its progress and be prepared for potential impacts from a tropical cyclone.
