The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a developing weather system in the Caribbean Sea that could pose a tropical threat by the middle of next week. The Tampa Free Press reported on this system late last week.

Currently, a broad area of low pressure is expected to form over the southwestern Caribbean Sea. Forecasters predict this system has the potential to gradually develop into a more organized tropical disturbance as it drifts northeastward.

While the system currently has a low chance of development over the next few days, that probability increases to 30% over the next week.

It’s still too early to predict the exact path of this potential storm and what impact, if any, it might have on Florida or other land areas.
