The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two active systems in the Atlantic: Hurricane Kirk, located over the central tropical Atlantic, and Tropical Storm Leslie, further east. Neither system currently poses a threat to land.
Meanwhile, a disorganized area of showers and thunderstorms is lingering over the Gulf of Mexico. This disturbance has the potential to develop into a broad area of low pressure over the weekend or early next week. However, its proximity to a frontal boundary could hinder its development into a tropical or subtropical storm.

Regardless of whether it strengthens into a named storm, this system could bring locally heavy rainfall to parts of Mexico over the next few days. The Florida Peninsula could also see increased rain from late this weekend into next week.
The National Hurricane Center gives this disturbance a low chance of formation over the next 48 hours (near 0 percent) and a low chance of formation over the next 7 days (30 percent).
