Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Friday that he believes that if former Vice President Kamala Harris had assumed the presidency in 2023, the 2024 election would have been even more dismal for Democrats.
“Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House,” a book set for release on Tuesday, reports that Democratic officials held quiet discussions as early as 2023 to arrange for former President Joe Biden to step aside from the 2024 presidential race, and that Harris’ aides “strategized around the possibility that Biden might die in office,” according to The Guardian. Gingrich argued on “Varney & Company” that Harris would have been such an awful president that she would have put the nation at risk, and that Americans would have had a poorer perception of her than they did during her abbreviated campaign.

“I think it would have made it worse for them because Kamala Harris proved that she doesn’t know anything. She’s lazy and she’s committed to the hard left,” Gingrich said. “So if we’d had a year of Kamala Harris actually in office, first of all, the dangers to America around the world would have skyrocketed because nobody would have taken her seriously. And second, the country would have been even more disgusted than it was.”
Harris backed a slew of left-wing ideas during her 2020 presidential run, including a ban on fracking, mandatory federal gun buybacks and the abolition of private health insurance. However, her campaign walked them back less than ten days after she launched her 2024 bid following Biden’s July 21 announcement that he was withdrawing and endorsing her.
“You know, she raised I think a billion, 500 million dollars in a 9-week period, outspent Trump by about 3 to 1 and lost because she couldn’t answer anything,” he continued. “She couldn’t go on Joe Rogan because she couldn’t possibly talk for three hours. She didn’t know anything. And if we’d had her as president for a year, I think it would have been a terrifying roller coaster.”

The Harris campaign and the Democratic Party reportedly spent almost $1.5 billion during her 2024 presidential bid. The former vice president ultimately lost all seven battleground states and the popular vote to President Donald Trump.
The Harris campaign had explored the potential of appearing on “The Joe Rogan Experience” to boost her support among male voters, Reuters reported on Oct. 15. Rogan asserted on Nov. 8 that her campaign had requested topic “restrictions” and inquired about whether he edits his interviews while talking about her possible appearance that ultimately did not occur.
The popular podcast host said he accepted the campaign’s “restrictions,” but made it evident that there would be no editing of the episode.
Former Harris communications director Jamal Simmons was the one who plotted about Biden’s potential death, authors Jonathan and Allen Amie Parnes write, according to The Guardian. He even created a “death-pool roster” of federal judges who would potentially swear the former vice president in as president.

Former CNN political analyst Chris Cillizza forecasted Thursday that Biden is in for a rough two-month period as “Fight” and “Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again” by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson are slated for release and likely to portray him and his aides negatively.
“Those two books, I feel like, are going to shed a lot of light on how big this cover-up really was. Again, I’ve said repeatedly, I think this is a big scandal,” Cillizza said. “The fact that the Biden inner circle clearly knew he was diminished, they kept him from the media, they insisted to the media he was fine even while knowing he was not, what happened at the debate.”
