Newsom Spreads Falsehoods In Video Critical Of Florida Gov. DeSantis

Just days after an outraged mob of pro-LGBTQ activists at one of his state universities assaulted a young woman who criticized gender ideology, left-wing California Gov. Gavin Newsom released a video that warned of the growing “authoritarianism” in Florida.

“Last week, I went to New College in Florida — ground zero for what the @GOP are trying to do to education in this country,” Newsom tweeted on Wednesday along with his video.

“Take a moment to watch this. Books are banned. Speech is limited. Faculty are scared. Students are bullied. This is just a small dose of what’s to come.”

In the video, Newsom recalls a recent trip to New College in Sarasota, which violated his state’s own ban on state-sponsored travel to red states, to share what “functionally authoritarian leaders” like Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis are doing to liberals.

Newsom then spends nearly two minutes regurgitating the usual lies.

He referenced the so-called “don’t say gay” law, without explaining that the Parental Bill of Rights actually bans school districts and classroom teachers from implementing lesson plans rooted in gender ideology and sexual orientation in grades K-3.

He claimed teachers and librarians are being criminalized and that books are being banned, without offering a single example of either.

Newsom then noted that these alleged authoritarians are coming to schools like New College, the smallest university in Florida’s state system.

Earlier this year, DeSantis appointed a new board of trustees to oversee New College, resulting in a roll back of the school’s anti-conservative “diversity, equity, and inclusion” programs and forcing the ouster of its liberal president.

“Ron DeSantis is nothing more than a bully,” Newsom said in the video. “He bullies vulnerable communities, tries to humiliate people, talking down to people, talking past people because they look different, they love different.”

“They want to bring us back to a pre-1960s world,” Newsom added.

Meanwhile, Newsom, who kept people masked and locked in their homes during the pandemic and mandated that corporations hire minorities and women for their boards, remains mum on Riley Gaines.

California’s Democratic governor has been silent about the attack on Gaines by a far left mob at San Francisco State University last week.

Gaines, a former all-American swimmer at the University of Kentucky, was at the school to talk about the effect of allowing biological men into women’s sports and areas such as restrooms and locker rooms.

She was subsequently assaulted and punched by the mob and endured their threats of violence while forced to hole up barricaded in a room for nearly two hours while neither police nor university administrators came to her aid.

No one who threatened Gaines has been arrested, and school administrators actually praised members of the mob for their violence.

Newsom has been touring red states lately to try to criticize Republican governors like DeSantis and Govs. Kay Ivey in Alabama and Tate Reeves in Mississippi, even as California leads the nation in the number of people relocating to other states.
