A 24-year-old Nicaraguan migrant, David Davon-Bonilla, who had previously pleaded guilty to sexual assault, allegedly raped a 46-year-old woman at knifepoint in New York City on Sunday.
The attack reportedly occurred with the assistance of a 37-year-old Mexican migrant, Leovando Moreno, who allegedly attacked the woman’s boyfriend when he tried to intervene, according to the New York Post.
Davon-Bonilla, who entered the U.S. illegally in December 2022, allegedly threw the woman to the ground and held a knife to her throat during the assault. Moreno allegedly struck the woman’s boyfriend with a pipe when he attempted to stop the attack.

The victim was taken to Coney Island Hospital and is in stable condition. Davon-Bonilla has been charged with first-degree rape and other related charges, while Moreno faces charges of second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
This incident adds to growing concerns about the impact of the migrant crisis on New York City. Davon-Bonilla had previously resided in one of the city’s hotels used to house migrants, highlighting the strain on resources and potential safety risks associated with the influx of migrants. Mayor Eric Adams has implemented budget cuts to address the financial burden of migrant services.
