WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A New Year’s Eve arrest at a Winter Haven motel reunited a couple, but not in the way they likely hoped.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office had been searching for 29-year-old Cody Huggins of Auburndale on a warrant for grand theft. His girlfriend, 26-year-old Reanna Wanie of Lake Wales, had already been arrested in the same case earlier in December but was out on bail.

Huggins had reportedly fled to Wisconsin to avoid arrest but made the mistake of returning to Polk County. On New Year’s Eve, deputies tracked him down to the Camellia Motel in Winter Haven.

When deputies knocked on the motel room door, Wanie answered.

As she was escorted outside, Huggins peeked out from the bathroom only to be greeted by the sight of K9 officers Rone and Kreed. Faced with the canine presence, Huggins quickly surrendered.

Huggins was arrested on the outstanding warrant, and both he and Wanie were additionally charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

This arrest adds to Huggins’ extensive criminal history, which includes charges for burglary, vehicle theft, DUI, fleeing from law enforcement, forgery, fraud, trespassing, and more.
