Double Trouble? New Tropical Threat Emerges After Hurricane Milton Battered Florida

As Floridians across the state begin the long recovery process after Hurricane Milton, the tropics show no signs of quieting down. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring a developing weather system near the Cabo Verde Islands, which has the potential to become a tropical depression or storm within the next few days.

This system, currently located over the southwestern portion of the Cabo Verde Islands, is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. However, some development is possible as it moves westward or west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph across the eastern tropical Atlantic.

The NHC gives this disturbance a medium chance (40%) of forming into a tropical depression or tropical storm within the next 48 hours and a similar chance over the next 7 days.

Potential Impacts:

Regardless of whether this system develops into a tropical cyclone, it is expected to bring localized areas of heavy rain and gusty winds to portions of the Cabo Verde Islands today.

Other Active Systems:

The NHC is also continuing to track Tropical Storm Leslie, which is currently located over the central subtropical Atlantic Ocean.
