New Port Richey Woman Dies After Car Plunges Into Pond In Park Lake Estates

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – An 88-year-old woman from New Port Richey died early Saturday morning after the car she was riding in went into a pond in Park Lake Estates.

The accident happened around 1:34 AM on Sawgrass Boulevard. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an 82-year-old man from Bushnell was driving a Toyota Corolla southbound on Black Fox Drive.

As he turned onto Sawgrass Boulevard, the vehicle veered off the road and into a pond, becoming submerged.

The driver sustained minor injuries, but his passenger tragically died at the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash. It is unclear at this time why the vehicle left the roadway.
