NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. – Richard McCafferty, 78, has been identified as the driver in the hit-and-run incident that occurred on September 4th, 2024. He has been arrested and charged with one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving injury (felony).

McCafferty is currently in custody at the Pasco County Corrections Department.

Previous reporting: New Port Richey Police are asking for the community’s assistance in identifying the driver involved in a hit-and-run accident that occurred this morning, September 4th, 2024, around 7:00 AM.

An eleven-year-old girl riding a bicycle was struck by a small red vehicle, possibly a Hyundai, at the intersection of Van Buren Street and Indiana Avenue.

The driver, described as a middle-aged white male wearing a light-colored patterned shirt and blue shorts, fled the scene.

Thankfully, the young victim sustained only minor injuries, and damage to the bicycle was minimal.
