A recent survey by the University of Chicago’s GenForward project revealed that more than 25% of Black men aged 18 to 40 plan to vote for former President Donald Trump in the upcoming November presidential election.

The poll, released Wednesday, found that 26% of young Black men said they would support Trump, compared to just 12% of Black women in the same age range.

The poll comes as Vice President Kamala Harris continues to face challenges in garnering support from young Black male voters, a group that has been critical for her campaign. Despite the fact that a significant portion of young Black men indicated support for Trump, the same demographic consistently identified Harris as the stronger candidate on several key issues.

According to the poll, 49% of young Black men viewed Harris as the most capable leader, while only 25% said the same about Trump. Similarly, 52% of young Black men believed Harris would do more to improve their lives and the lives of their families compared to Trump.

On major issues such as trustworthiness, reducing inflation, and protecting democracy, Harris emerged as the preferred candidate among young Black men. However, the poll found a nearly even split when it came to handling the ongoing conflict in Gaza, with 37% supporting Harris and 36% backing Trump.

These contradictions reflect a complex dynamic within this voter group. Former President Barack Obama recently commented that some men may struggle to vote for a female candidate, even if they believe she is the better option.
