TAMPA, Fla. – Two popular destinations for Tampa International Airport travelers will become much easier to reach, thanks to a pair of new nonstop routes announced by airline partners this week.
Alaska Airlines will begin nonstop service this fall between TPA and San Diego (SAN), while Frontier Airlines is helping expand routes between Tampa to Puerto Rico with nonstop flights to Aguadilla (BQN) later this spring.
San Diego is currently TPA’s largest unserved nonstop market in terms of demand, with a daily average of 154 passengers traveling each way between the two cities in each direction. TPA hasn’t offered direct flights to San Diego since September 2021.

The new route will offer flights without connections, saving passengers several hours each way. Alaska will now serve five West Coast cities from TPA, adding San Diego to existing nonstop routes to Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Alaska’s new service, which begins Oct. 5, offers a morning departure from SAN and a late afternoon departure from TPA, making the route extra business traveler-friendly. Passengers also will enjoy reciprocal frequent flyer benefits between Alaska Airlines and its Oneworld Alliance partner, American Airlines.
“Tampa International Airport is proud to work with our airline partners to best serve travelers headed to our most popular destinations. Hundreds of passengers each day fly between TPA and San Diego, so this new nonstop route by Alaska Airlines offers a welcome daily option without requiring a connection,” Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano said.

“At the same time, Frontier’s new nonstop service to Aguadilla will help serve both Puerto Rico and the Tampa Bay Region’s extensive community with ties to the island, which also sees hundreds of passengers traveling in each direction every day.”
Frontier’s flights to Aguadilla will be TPA’s first scheduled nonstop service between Tampa and the town on Puerto Rico’s west coast.
The new route is in addition to the airline’s existing daily nonstop service between TPA and San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU). With the new service, Frontier will serve a total of 19 nonstop destinations from TPA.
This new service to Aguadilla begins May 4, offering another convenient option to reach the island’s west coast directly three times a week.
