TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa International Airport (TPA) announced Monday daily nonstop service to Mexico City starting this summer with new partner airline Aeromexico.

The route is a major win for TPA, which has listed the Mexican capital as one of its top-targeted international destinations for years. The connection will benefit both business and leisure travelers, as well as the many Tampa Bay area families with Mexico ties. The route is expected to generate nearly $70 million per year in economic impact for the Tampa Bay region.

The airline’s largest untapped market in the US was Tampa Bay. After Miami and Orlando, it is now Aeromexico’s 23rd market in the United States and its third in Florida.

There will be eleven seats in Aeromexico’s premium cabin, Clase Premier, on the Embraer E190 aircraft with 99 seats that will operate the new route to Mexico City International Airport (MEX).

Aeromexico’s daily service to Mexico City, as a founding member of the SkyTeam Alliance alongside Delta Air Lines, will provide easy connections to and from the airline’s vast network throughout Mexico and Latin America.

“It’s a big day when we get to announce both a new airline and a new route that connects Tampa Bay with the largest metropolitan area in North America,” Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano said. “We’re proud to welcome Aeromexico to TPA with this nonstop service to Mexico City and we are so grateful to our Tampa Bay community partners who have stepped up to help ensure the success of this flight.”

The day was equally exciting for Aeromexico, which joined TPA, tourism and economic development leaders on Monday to share the news and details of the partnership.

“This new service to the Tampa Bay area demonstrates our commitment to offer the best connectivity between Mexico and the United States, hand in hand with our partner Delta Air Lines,” said Jose Zapata, Vice President of Sales for US, Canada and Latin America. “As a result, our customers will have more options for leisure and business travel, and Tampa Bay has a lot to offer.”

Thanks to Aeromexico’s alliance with Delta, tickets are now available through both airlines’ digital channels, offering introductory fares

We will continue working with the Airport and our partners to keep strengthening the links between our communities. We’re proud that our efforts over many years are reflected in Aeromexico’s decision and we look forward to mutual success.
