A woman from Fruitland, New Mexico, has been indicted on federal charges for allegedly assaulting another woman with a knife, resulting in serious bodily injury.
The indictment alleges that on February 21, 2023, Richelle R. Upshaw, a 24-year-old enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, attacked the victim with a knife, causing significant harm to her head and face.
Upshaw appeared in federal court and is currently in custody pending trial. If convicted, she could face up to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.

The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Navajo Nation Department of Public Safety.
