A New Jersey man has been sentenced to 168 months (14 years) in federal prison for assaulting a federal agent with a deadly weapon, armed robbery, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, U.S. Attorney Alina Habba announced.
Jabree Johnson, 30, of Trenton, New Jersey, had previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Michael A. Shipp to a three-count indictment.

According to court documents and statements made in court, the incident occurred on March 22, 2021. Federal law enforcement officers were conducting an investigation into firearms trafficking and other illegal activities in and around Trenton and Hamilton, New Jersey.
An undercover federal agent arranged to purchase multiple firearms from an individual later identified as Johnson.
When the undercover agent arrived at the agreed-upon location for the transaction, Johnson entered the agent’s vehicle and handed over a black, semi-automatic firearm for inspection. After inspecting the firearm, the agent returned it to Johnson and requested to see the other firearms.
Instead of showing the other firearms, Johnson pointed the loaded firearm at the undercover agent and demanded money. The agent gave Johnson the U.S. currency he had brought to purchase the guns. Johnson then ordered the agent out of the vehicle at gunpoint.

As the agent exited the vehicle, he/she drew his/her service-issued firearm and fired at Johnson, wounding him in the shoulder. Johnson also fired his handgun multiple times at the agent.
Johnson then fled the area with the money. He was later identified at a local hospital as the person who had assaulted and robbed the undercover federal agent and was subsequently arrested.
In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Shipp sentenced Johnson to five years of supervised release and ordered him to forfeit the firearm used during the commission of the crimes.
