A lucky lottery player in New Jersey has finally come forward to claim a massive $1.12 billion Mega Millions jackpot, ending months of speculation about the winner’s identity.

The winning ticket, sold at ShopRite Liquor #781 in Neptune Township, matched all six numbers in the March 26th drawing, making it the fifth-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history. The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, will receive a lump sum payment of $537.5 million before taxes.

This jackpot was the first Mega Millions jackpot won in 2024 and followed a streak of 31 consecutive drawings without a winner. The winning numbers were 7, 11, 22, 29, and 38, with the gold Mega Ball 4 and a 2x multiplier.

“Congratulations to the New Jersey Lottery for selling a jackpot-winning ticket in Tuesday’s $1.128 billion Mega Millions drawing,” said Gretchen Corbin, lead director of the Mega Millions Consortium. “We celebrate our new jackpot winner, as well as all the prizes won and dollars raised for good causes during this exciting jackpot run.”

The delay in claiming the prize fueled considerable curiosity and speculation in New Jersey and beyond. Lottery officials had urged players to check their tickets and come forward to claim the life-changing prize.

While the winner’s identity remains a secret, their life is undoubtedly changed forever by this incredible stroke of luck. The jackpot is sure to generate significant revenue for the state of New Jersey, which benefits from lottery sales.
