POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A cross-country truck driver made an unexpected stop in Polk County – at the county jail.
On Thursday afternoon, deputies arrested 32-year-old Oscateris Echavarria of Las Vegas after he was caught stealing merchandise from a Love’s Travel Stop in Davenport.
Echavarria had stopped at the travel center, enjoyed a meal at Arby’s, and even paid for a shower. However, he decided to skip paying for a 50-foot air hose and diesel engine oil, attempting to leave the store with the items concealed.

When confronted by a deputy, Echavarria initially denied the theft and even tried to deny his profession as a truck driver. But the evidence was clear, and Echavarria eventually confessed. The stolen merchandise was recovered and returned to the store.
Echavarria was arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail on a charge of retail theft.
