A former resident of North Las Vegas, Nevada, has been sentenced in federal court to 78 months’ imprisonment and 10 years’ supervised release on his conviction of Travel With Intent to Engage in Illicit Sexual Conduct, Acting United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman announced on Tuesday
United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti imposed the sentence on Renad Bautista, age 32.
According to information presented to the court, on or about December 5, 2019, until December 9, 2019, Bautista traveled from Las Vegas to Pittsburgh with a motivating purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor whom he had been messaging on social media.
Assistant United States Attorney Heidi M. Grogan prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
Acting U.S. Attorney Kaufman commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the West Mifflin Police Department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Bautista.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
