Just as boxing fans were settling in to watch the highly anticipated Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight on Netflix, the streaming giant threw a punch of its own – a significant outage that left thousands of viewers in the U.S. staring at error messages instead of the boxing ring.
And for those lucky enough to actually get in, the video quality was a knockout in its own right, taking viewers on a nostalgic trip back to the grainy days of 1989 VHS tapes.
According to Downdetector.com, an outage tracking website, over 72,000 incidents were reported late Friday evening.
Users reported various issues, including problems with video streaming, server connection errors, and login difficulties.

The outage coincided with the live broadcast of the Tyson-Paul fight, a major event for Netflix as it ventures into live sports streaming. The high volume of traffic generated by viewers eager to watch the fight may have contributed to the technical problems.
Many viewers took to social media to express their frustration at missing portions of the fight due to the outage.
“I’m surprised this tweet isn’t buffering,” said Fla-Dad on X.
“Who else is watching and all of a sudden this live feed looks like it’s being filmed with a potato,” said JamesCa09181212 on X.
Netflix has not yet issued an official statement regarding the cause of the outage or the extent of the disruption. This incident highlights the challenges streaming platforms face in handling massive live events and ensuring a seamless viewing experience for their users.
