Following a White House meeting on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans for Israel to reduce trade barriers with the U.S., and President Trump revealed that a significant meeting with Iran is scheduled for Saturday.
Prime Minister Netanyahu told reporters, “We will eliminate the trade deficit with the United States. We’re also going to eliminate trade barriers… that have been put up unnecessarily, and I think Israel can serve as a model for many countries who ought to do the same.”

Netanyahu acknowledged the reasoning behind the U.S. decision to increase tariffs, noting that U.S. tariffs have often been lower than those imposed by other countries. He stated that Israel intends to swiftly implement trade policy improvements with the U.S.
President Trump announced that the U.S. is planning a “major” meeting with Iran on Saturday, involving “top-level” personnel. He expressed his hope for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing tensions.
“We’re having direct talks with Iran… It’ll go on Saturday. We’re having a very big meeting, and we’ll see what can happen,” Trump said. “I think everybody agrees that doing a deal would be preferable to doing the obvious.”

Trump reiterated his demand for Iran to negotiate a new nuclear deal to replace the 2015 agreement, warning of potential military action. While he has threatened military force, he indicated that it is not his preferred course of action.
“The obvious is not something that I want to be involved with or, frankly, that Israel wants to be involved with if they can avoid it. So we’re going to see if we can avoid it,” Trump said.
He suggested that a mutually beneficial agreement is possible but cautioned that Iran would face “great danger” if it refuses to compromise on its nuclear program. “They can’t have a nuclear weapon,” Trump stated.
