Nationwide Poll Reveals Deep Dissatisfaction With Schumer Following GOP Spending Bill Vote

A sweeping survey of more than 9,000 members of ‘Our Revolution,’ the nation’s largest independent political organizing group, has revealed an overwhelming loss of confidence in Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

Nearly 90% of respondents believe that Schumer should step down from his leadership role following his support for the GOP-led spending bill, which critics argue undermines progressive priorities.

The survey, conducted among a subset of Our Revolution’s 8-million-strong grassroots base, reflects growing frustration within progressive and activist circles of the Democratic Party.

Many respondents are rank-and-file Democratic voters, including supporters of Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren in the 2020 presidential primary.

The survey results highlight a dramatic collapse in grassroots support for Schumer and broader dissatisfaction with Democratic leadership:

  • 89% believe Schumer should step down as Senate Minority Leader.
  • 86% support efforts to remove him from his leadership role if he refuses to resign.
  • 86% back a primary challenge against Schumer in his next election.

Beyond opposition to Schumer, the survey also shows widespread discontent with other Senate Democrats who backed the GOP funding bill:

  • 83% support primary challengers for all 10 Democratic senators who voted for the measure.
  • 96% want Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, chair of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, to recruit stronger candidates willing to oppose Trump and Elon Musk.
  • 99% believe Democrats should be doing more to resist Trump and Musk’s influence.

The survey reflects growing anger among Democratic activists, many of whom see Schumer’s support for the spending bill as a betrayal of progressive values at a time when they believe the party should be standing firm against Republican policies.

“These survey results point to an undeniable crisis of confidence in Chuck Schumer and Democratic leadership at a time of unprecedented executive overreach and corporate takeover of the American federal government,” said Our Revolution Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese.

He added, “As Trump and Musk actively dismantle the federal civil service and vital social safety net programs that millions rely on for survival, it is an utter disgrace that Schumer and other top Democrats cannot muster up the courage to actively resist. It’s time to step up or step down.”

The survey also included open-ended responses from over 5,000 participants, many of whom expressed deep disappointment in the Democratic Party’s leadership:

  • “Schumer has been an embarrassment for years. We need an opposition party, the Democrats are anything but!”
  • “I’m a lifelong Democrat, but I’m so frustrated and discouraged that I’m thinking of becoming an Independent.”
  • “Wildly frustrated and defeated. The GOP has been playing dirty for over 10 years. Why do the Dems keep rolling over and letting them win every time? Now it’s reached a point where we may not come back from this.”

With the 2026 Senate elections on the horizon, these findings signal potential primary challenges against Democratic incumbents who are seen as failing to push back against conservative policies.

Whether these frustrations translate into electoral action remains to be seen, but the numbers indicate a growing divide between progressive grassroots activists and Democratic leadership in Washington.

The Our Revolution poll suggests that unless Schumer and other Senate Democrats adopt a more aggressive stance against Republican policies, they may face increasing resistance from within their own party in upcoming elections.
