The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a new disturbance in the central Atlantic, according to its latest advisory.

Meanwhile, the Pacific remains active, with two tropical storms and one hurricane currently being tracked.

While August has been unusually quiet in the Atlantic, meteorologists are urging residents not to become complacent. AccuWeather forecasters are predicting a significant shift in the weather pattern that could lead to a surge in tropical activity.

“We could see things get very active, potentially very quickly, once the dry air dissipates,” said AccuWeather Lead Hurricane Expert Alex DaSilva. “A parade of storms could emerge, with activity ramping up by the end of August and persisting throughout September.”

AccuWeather forecasts predict between six and ten tropical systems in September, similar to the record-breaking 2020 hurricane season, which saw ten storms in September alone and 30 named storms for the season.

As Labor Day approaches on September 2, meteorologists are preparing for what could be an intense period of tropical storm development.
