In an incident one might think was reserved exclusively for Florida man, an Alabama man was arrested last week after he crashed his car outside a Bass Pro Shop store, then bolted inside to do a naked cannonball into the retailer’s giant aquarium.

According to AL.com, 42-year-old George Owens was reportedly acting erratically last Thursday and then drove into a pole in the parking lot of the store in Leeds.

“After the crash, he got out of his vehicle, took off his clothes, ran into the Bass Pro Shop, and jumped into the aquarium,” AL.com reported. “Video taken by bystanders showed the man do a cannonball into the aquarium and later stand under the waterfall.”

At that point, a pair of Leeds police officers made their way toward the diver.

Owens, a resident of Sterrett, then got out of the water, yelled something at the cops and then jumped back in.

Eventually, the suspect then scurried up the side of the aquarium and climbed over its side, where he took a header onto the concrete floor below and knocked himself out.

In all, witnesses said he was in the massive tank for about five minutes.

AL.com noted that Owens, of Sterrett, was arrested on suspicion of public lewdness, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, assault on a police officer, two counts of first-degree criminal mischief and two counts of reckless endangerment.

Owens was also taken to a nearby hospital for mental health treatment.

Florida Bass Pro Shop Tarpon Dive

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, two weeks ago, a man grabbed a net, scooped up a 50-pound tarpon from the aquarium inside a Bass Pro Shop in Fort Myers, Florida, and walked out the door.

So far, the location of both the alleged suspect and the missing tarpon is unknown.
