CITRUS COUNTY, Fla – A 41-year-old Mount Dora man was killed in a crash after fleeing from deputies early Saturday.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the man was traveling westbound on SR-44, east of Colonade Street, when he fled from an attempted traffic stop by Citrus Sheriff’s Deputies at high speed.
Deputies successfully deployed stop sticks east of CR-491; however, the driver continued until crossing the median and colliding with a light post.

Troopers say the Jeep Cherokee continued until colliding with a concrete subdivision title wall and catching fire at Crystal Oaks Drive.
The driver suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
