Morgantown, West Virginia, Physician Admits To $143K Tax Fraud

MORGANTOWN, WV. – David M. Anderson, a 63-year-old physician from Morgantown, has pleaded guilty to filing a false tax return, resulting in a loss of $143,599 to the IRS, U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld announced.

Court documents reveal that Anderson underreported his taxable income on his tax returns. U.S. Attorney Ihlenfeld emphasized the Justice Department’s commitment to holding tax evaders accountable, stating that Anderson will now face the consequences of his actions, including potential imprisonment, penalties, and interest.

Anderson could be sentenced to up to three years in federal prison. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eleanor Hurney, and the investigation was conducted by the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation.
