Ahead of the February 27th GOP Presidential Primary Election, more than 50 political leaders in the Michigan Legislature have officially endorsed Donald J. Trump for President.

According to a January Glengariff Group poll, Donald Trump is leading Joe Biden by a significant margin in Michigan.

Among the 600 likely general election voters surveyed, 47% expressed their preference for Trump, while only 39% favored Biden.

This 8-point advantage for Trump is consistent with other recent state and national polls that also show him in a strong position against the incumbent president.

The numbers reveal a striking drop in support for Biden compared to previous polls. Only 17% of respondents believed that Biden deserved another term as the Democratic incumbent, marking a historic low for a major public officeholder in Michigan.

The Glengariff Group poll also explored how Michigan voters perceive Biden and Trump in terms of age and competence. The results were telling. Biden, at 81 years old, is the oldest sitting president in U.S. history. The survey found that 58% of participants had an unfavorable impression of Biden, while only 29% held a favorable view. This significant drop in support for Biden indicates a decline in confidence in his leadership abilities.

Similarly, 50% of respondents strongly disapproved of Biden’s job performance as president, while only 35% approved. The poll highlights concerns about Biden’s fitness for office and general level of competence, with 41% of negative responses relating to these topics. In contrast, Trump, at 77 years old, received a more favorable impression from voters, with 47% preferring him over Biden.

The poll asked participants about the issues that would most influence their vote in the upcoming election. The top response was jobs and the economy, with 16% of respondents considering it their primary concern.

The border and immigration came in second, with 9% of respondents emphasizing its importance. Inflation and the cost of living garnered 7% of the responses, while protecting American democracy (4%), foreign policy (7%), and abortion and women’s rights (5%) rounded out the list.

These results indicate that voters in Michigan are primarily concerned about economic matters and the nation’s security. Understanding these priorities will be crucial for both Trump and Biden as they shape their platforms and messaging in the lead-up to the election.

The poll also delved into participants’ party affiliations.

Of the respondents, 40% identified as Democrats, while 40% identified as Republicans. The remaining 19% described themselves as independents.
