Two men have been sentenced to federal prison terms for their roles in the armed robberies of two St. Louis County dollar stores in October 2022. U.S. District Judge Sarah E. Pitlyk handed down the sentences after both men pleaded guilty to multiple felony charges.

Deon Walker, 27, received a sentence of 11 years and nine months in prison during a hearing on Wednesday. His accomplice, Samuel Nance, 33, of Black Jack, Missouri, was previously sentenced in July to 14 years behind bars.

Both men admitted guilt to two counts of robbery and one count of possession and brandishing of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

The crime spree unfolded on the evening of October 9, 2022. The first robbery occurred just after 6:00 p.m. at a Dollar Store in Berkeley, Missouri.

According to court documents, Walker and Nance entered the store concealed by hooded clothing and black ski masks. When an employee requested they remove their hoods, Walker brandished a black handgun, pointing it at both employees and customers. He demanded money and ordered everyone to lie on the floor.

Amidst the chaos, one customer managed to flee through the back of the store with two children. An employee complied with the demands and opened a cash register, which Nance proceeded to empty.

Walker then grabbed a customer and, at gunpoint, escorted her to the front of the store before forcing her to the ground. The duo then proceeded to take money from a second cash register, along with approximately 18 packs of Newport cigarettes and around $481 in cash.

The pair struck again approximately 90 minutes later at another Dollar Store in Ferguson, Missouri.

This time, Walker and Nance went behind the checkout counter. Walker pointed a handgun at a cashier and demanded money. When a customer attempted to leave the store, Nance jumped over the counter to stop them. Walker then took the entire cash drawer, and both men fled the scene with approximately $486.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Berkeley Police Department conducted a joint investigation into the robberies.
