A Carthage, Missouri man is trading text messages for prison bars after being sentenced to 20 years for dealing methamphetamine.
Robert Marion Nevels, 36, was caught red-handed in May 2023 with a loaded gun and over 200 grams of meth during a traffic stop. But that was just the tip of the iceberg.

Investigators uncovered a much larger drug operation, fueled by Nevels’s frequent trips to Mexico and California to purchase large quantities of meth. His text messages revealed he was moving serious weight – up to a kilogram at a time – and selling it throughout Jasper and Newton Counties.
Nevels, who was already on probation and parole for assault and drug charges, pleaded guilty in March 2024 and learned his fate this week. U.S. District Judge M. Douglas Harpool handed down a 20-year sentence with no chance of parole.

This case highlights the growing problem of meth trafficking in the region and the dedication of law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice. The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the DEA, ATF, Carthage Police Department, and Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Nevels’s sentencing sends a clear message that those involved in large-scale drug distribution will face severe consequences.
