A southeastern Missouri man was found guilty of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor following a one-day bench trial.

Rayford Evans, 52, of Doniphan, was convicted of using his cell phone to record a 15-year-old girl while she was bathing and using the bathroom. The victim discovered the phone and reported the incident to her parents, who contacted the police.

Evidence presented at trial showed that Evans had positioned his phone outside the bathroom window, using it to record the victim without her knowledge.

Evans faces a sentence of 15 to 30 years in prison. He will be sentenced later this year.

The FBI and the Doniphan City Police Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Hunter prosecuted the case.
