Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Ohio Senator JD Vance have officially agreed to face off in a debate on October 1, as early voting for the general election begins in some states.
CBS News revealed Wednesday on its X account that both candidates were invited to debate in New York City, offering four possible dates: September 17, September 24, October 1, and October 8.
Walz reposted the message from his campaign account, confirming, “See you on October 1, JD.” The Harris-Walz campaign also issued a statement saying Walz “looks forward to debating JD Vance — if he shows up.”

Vance accepted the October 1 invitation and issued his own challenge to Walz to meet on September 18.
“The American people deserve as many debates as possible, which is why President Trump has challenged Kamala to three of them already. Not only do I accept the CBS debate on October 1st, I accept the CNN debate on September 18th as well. I look forward to seeing you at both!” said Vance.
The debate’s timing was uncertain, especially following President Joe Biden’s decision to leave the campaign trail and Democrats selecting Vice President Kamala Harris to lead their ticket alongside Walz.
