TAMPA, Fla. – Electronics Technician 3rd Class Carson Black, from Tampa, Florida, talks into a sound-powered phone aboard the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Monterey (CG 61) Feb. 25, 2021.
Monterey is operating in the Atlantic Ocean in support of naval operations to maintain maritime stability and security in order to ensure access, deter aggression and defend the U.S., allied, and partner interests.
With more than 90 percent of all trade traveling by sea, and 95 percent of the world’s international phone and internet traffic carried through fiber optic cables lying on the ocean floor, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity and security of the United States is directly linked to a strong and ready Navy.
