TAMPA, Fla. – This event has been canceled and will be rescheduled at a later date. We will update this as soon as the new date is released.
Hillsborough County Extension Service is hosting a special cooking event for military families newly stationed at MacDill Air Force Base. The “Patriots Palate” event aims to ease the transition for families by teaching them how to prepare simple and delicious meals using fresh, local Florida ingredients.
The inaugural event will take place on Wednesday, September 25th, at 1 p.m. at the American Legion Post 5 in Tampa. Chef Justin Timineri from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will lead the demonstration for 20 military families during MacDill Welcome Week.

Chef Timineri will showcase various Florida-grown crops, explain their seasonality, and provide tips on creating nutritious meals with these ingredients. The menu features vegetable fritters with yogurt sauce, a Florida seafood boil, and a unique twist on Key Lime Pie using seasonal fruits.
This initiative is a collaboration between Hillsborough County Extension Service, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and Blue Star Families. It’s a wonderful opportunity for military families to learn about local produce, gain culinary skills, and connect with their new community.
