HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. – Hillsborough County will host a free bus tour of local agriculture businesses to provide active-duty members of the military, veterans, and their spouses an opportunity to explore career options in agriculture industries. Today’s agriculture industries increasingly focus on technology and management systems to produce food, medicine, consumer products, and energy.
The bus will depart at 8 a.m. March 18 from UF-IFAS Extension Hillsborough County, 5339 County Road 579, Seffner, Florida 33584. The tour will stop at a variety of Hillsborough County farming operations, supporting industries, and the University of Florida Gulf Coast Research and Education Center in southern Hillsborough County.
Attendees will get the chance to meet with local farmers and agriculture researchers to discuss careers in agriculture industries. There will also be an opportunity to hear from former veterans-turned-agribusiness professionals about how they utilized their skills to transition from the military to careers in agriculture.
Pre-registration is required by March 16, and seating is limited. Attendees are asked to wear appropriate clothing for the weather and closed-toe shoes.
The tour is organized through a partnership between Hillsborough County Extension, University of Florida Gulf Coast Research and Education Center, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Farm Credit of Central Florida, and Chemical Dynamics.
Hillsborough County and its partners are committed to assisting transitioning veterans by providing meaningful connections to quality civilian career opportunities and training.
