A 74-year-old Michigan man has been arrested and charged with aggravated domestic violence and vulnerable adult abuse following a lengthy investigation into the death of his wife.

John Dominick Bromley was taken into custody by Michigan State Police (MSP) troopers in Oakland County on February 9th, 2025, after a traffic stop for speeding revealed an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

The investigation began in June 2024 when troopers were called to investigate a report of squatting in a cabin in Otsego County. They found Bromley and his 68-year-old wife living in the cabin without permission. The woman had extensive bruising and difficulty breathing and was transported to the hospital, where she later died.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Bromley had a history of domestic abuse. An autopsy was performed, and the case was turned over to the Otsego County Prosecutor’s Office, which issued a warrant for Bromley’s arrest.

In addition to the charges in Otsego County, Bromley is also facing charges in Grand Traverse County for impersonating a police officer. He allegedly attempted to gain access to the morgue after his wife’s death by posing as a trooper.

Bromley was arraigned in the 87-A District Court in Otsego County and is currently being held on a $50,000 cash surety bond.
