MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A Miami Springs man with a lengthy criminal record was arrested Wednesday evening in Marathon for burglary and theft.
Jose Enrique Pons, 40, faces multiple charges, including burglary of an occupied dwelling, theft, trespassing, wearing a mask or hood while committing a crime, and being a violent career offender in possession of a concealed weapon.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Sombrero Beach Road around 7 p.m. Witnesses reported seeing Pons enter the property, go under the house, and steal beers and a fishing rod.
Shortly after, the Sheriff’s Office received another call about a theft in progress at the Winn-Dixie grocery store. Pons was identified as the suspect in both incidents. Upon searching him, deputies found three knives concealed under his clothing.

A background check revealed that Pons had an outstanding warrant from Miami-Dade County and an extensive criminal history, including numerous felony convictions for firearm and weapons offenses.
Pons was taken into custody and booked into the Monroe County Jail.
