MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A Miami man faces a mandatory court appearance after being cited for possessing undersized fish in the Florida Keys this past Sunday.

Banier Eugenio Avila Perez, 39, was issued the citation on Sunday, April 13th, near Mile Marker 78 in Islamorada. According to authorities, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Marine Deputy Jason Farr was conducting routine resource checks in the area around 2:20 p.m.

During the checks, Deputy Farr reportedly found Avila Perez in the process of cleaning fish. An inspection revealed that Avila Perez was in possession of five lane snapper and one mangrove snapper that were below the minimum legal size limit.

Possessing undersized fish is a violation of Florida’s fishing regulations, which are designed to protect fish populations and ensure sustainable fisheries.
