Miami Man Arrested In Polk County For Dump Trailer Theft

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Miami man has been arrested in Polk County for the theft of a dump trailer. Ileak Gomez-Martinez, 47, was taken into custody by Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) deputies on February 13th and charged with grand theft and driving with a suspended/revoked license.

The arrest stems from the theft of a dump trailer, valued at approximately $16,000, from Wahneta on February 11th.

A witness reported seeing a white Dodge pickup truck pulling the stolen trailer, and deputies identified Gomez-Martinez as a suspect who was known to drive a similar truck.

Upon learning that deputies were searching for him, Gomez-Martinez attempted to dispose of the stolen trailer. Deputies received information that he was planning to abandon the trailer at a property in Gordonville, north of Bartow.

On February 13th, as Gomez-Martinez arrived at the location with the stolen trailer, PCSO deputies intercepted him and took him into custody. Initially, he denied stealing the trailer, claiming he had permission to take it. However, when questioned about the removal of the trailer’s GPS device, he admitted to removing it to prevent the owner from tracking it.

Gomez-Martinez was booked into the Polk County Jail on charges of grand theft and driving with a suspended/revoked license.
