Miami-Dade police have released body camera footage showing the detainment of Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill just hours before he played in the team’s season opener on Sunday. The incident occurred during a traffic stop, and the video captures a tense exchange between Hill and responding officers.

The footage begins with an officer knocking on the driver’s side window of Hill’s car, prompting the wide receiver to roll down the window and respond, “Hey, don’t knock on my window like that.”

The officer asks Hill why he isn’t wearing a seatbelt, but Hill repeatedly ignores the question, instead focusing on the officer’s knocking.

As the interaction escalates, Hill asks the officer to issue the ticket quickly so he can leave, expressing frustration and rolling up his window. The officer demands that Hill keep the window down, threatening to remove him from the vehicle if he doesn’t comply. Moments later, officers pull Hill from the car and push him to the ground. One officer can be heard saying, “When we tell you to do something, you do it. You understand? Not what you want, but what we tell you.”

In an interview with NBC on Monday, Hill recounted the incident, stating that he was in the process of opening the car door when officers forcibly removed him. “If I wasn’t Tyreek Hill, lord knows, I probably would have been shot or locked up,” Hill said. He expressed disbelief at how quickly the situation escalated over what he described as a minor traffic violation.

Miami-Dade police initially planned to withhold the footage until an internal investigation was completed. However, they released over 105 minutes of body camera footage the following day, citing a commitment to transparency. “

While standard protocol is to release body cam footage after the internal review has concluded… the footage is being released to reinforce the Department’s commitment to keeping the public informed,” said Stephanie V. Daniels, Director of the Miami-Dade Police Department.
