Memorial Day Weekend Road Rage Shooting In Tampa Starts With ‘Flipping The Bird’

TAMPA, Fla. – The City of Tampa Police filed for a vehicle search warrant that thus far has produced a Tampa General Hospital parking pass, a bottle of Stella Rosa, swabs, and latent fingerprints that will help connect a driver to a shooting incident on I-275 that occurred on May 29.

According to the incident’s Affidavit for Search Warrant, it was after 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 29th, when an unidentified female driver merged onto I-275 southbound and cut off a driver’s vehicle, a silver Hyundai Elantra four-door with dark-tinted windows and black trim around the frame.

She gave him the finger as she aggressively entered the lane in which he was driving.

The driver of the silver Hyundai then drove up to the offending vehicle’s left side, rolled down the window, and shot a bullet in her vehicle with a handgun.

The shooter then fled the scene at a high speed and entered the downtown exit, recklessly passing a Tampa police officer who captured the vehicle’s license plate number and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect driver, however, sped off to escape.

The silver Hyundai the road-rage shooter was driving was later found and impounded. According to Tampa police, the vehicle is registered to a 21-year-old Tampa woman.

The shooting victim as well as the Tampa police officer who attempted to conduct the incident’s traffic stop described the shooting suspect as a black male with a beard.

The officer and victim both recalled there was a woman sitting in the passenger’s seat next to the shooting suspect. The shooting victim said this passenger wore a bucket hat.

The identity of the aggressive driver who allegedly ‘flipped the bird’ to the shooting suspect was not identified in the court documents.

According to Hillsborough County court records, the owner of the car has been cited for driving without insurance, possessing no motor vehicle registration, and driving with a suspended driver’s license.

We will update this story as we receive details on the investigation.
