Maryland Woman Receives Max Sentence For Murder, Dismemberment Of Boyfriend

Michelina Desiree Goodwin, 46, of Great Mills, Maryland, was sentenced to 61 years in prison, the maximum allowable sentence, for the murder and dismemberment of her boyfriend in December 2022.

Goodwin was found guilty by a St. Mary’s County jury in March 2024 of second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and unauthorized disposal of a body.

State’s Attorney Richard Fritz described the crime as “heinous,” highlighting the victim’s death by gunshot to the back and the subsequent dismemberment and scattering of his remains across two counties.

Senior Assistant State’s Attorneys Donna C. Pettersen and Jeffrey R. Maylor prosecuted the case, with Sergeant Roger Schwarb and Trooper First Class Evan Ruggles of the Maryland State Police leading the investigation.

The sentencing, delivered by the Honorable Terrence J. McGann, aims to bring a sense of justice and closure to the victim’s family after the horrific crime.
