MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A Marion County man has been sentenced to seven consecutive life sentences in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing two children.

Daniel Martinez Jr., 40, was convicted last week on three counts of Capital Sexual Battery upon a person under 12 years of age and four counts of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation. Judge Timothy McCourt handed down the sentence, ensuring that Martinez will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

“This defendant committed horrific crimes against two innocent children,” said Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney Bill Gladson. “The depravity of his actions is beyond measure, and this sentence reflects the severity of his crimes.”

The case unfolded in March 2024 when a school resource officer was contacted by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) regarding allegations of sexual abuse. The victims, who were interviewed at Kimberly’s Center, detailed years of abuse by Martinez.

Following an investigation by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, an arrest warrant was issued for Martinez, and he was taken into custody.

Assistant State Attorney Shanae Pickens successfully prosecuted the case, securing justice for the young victims.

“We hope this provides some closure for the victims and their family, helping them find the strength to heal,” Gladson added. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting children and holding those who commit such heinous crimes accountable.
