MARATHON, Fla. – A 41-year-old Marathon man has been arrested on multiple charges, including battery and assault, after allegedly attacking a pregnant woman and preventing her from calling for help.
Nichols Adolfuls Phipps was arrested on Thursday and faces charges of battery, assault, false imprisonment, depriving another of 911 services, and resisting arrest.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in Marathon at approximately 6:01 p.m. following a report of an assault. Upon arrival, deputies learned that the victim, a pregnant woman, had been struck by Phipps and prevented from leaving the residence or contacting emergency services.
She was transported to Fishermen’s Hospital with head injuries and reported that Phipps had also threatened to kill her.

Deputies then proceeded to Phipps’ residence. After a brief period of barricading himself inside, Phipps surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody without further incident. He was subsequently transported to the Monroe County Jail.
