SARASOTA, Fla. – Sarasota Police announced Wednesday the arrest of Devan Carroll, 35, in connection to a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on February 29, 2024.
Carroll was taken into custody at his residence by Manatee County Sheriff’s deputies and is charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
The incident occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Cocoanut Avenue and 2nd Street.

An 81-year-old woman was struck by a silver Ford F-150 Platinum truck while crossing the street in a marked crosswalk. The driver fled the scene, and the victim tragically died at the scene.
The truck involved was located and seized by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office approximately 18 hours after the crash. Investigation confirmed Carroll was the driver, having been pulled over by deputies just hours before the incident.

Carroll is currently awaiting extradition to Sarasota County Jail.
