MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. – A 78-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on US-301 in Manatee County Monday morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) responded to the scene of the crash, which occurred at the intersection of US-301 and Colony Drive South.
According to the FHP, a pickup truck driven by the 78-year-old man was traveling southbound on US-301 in the left turn lane, preparing to turn onto Colony Drive South. At the same time, a Hyundai Sonata driven by a 23-year-old man was traveling northbound on US-301 in the outside lane, approaching the same intersection.

The pickup truck driver turned left onto Colony Drive South, directly into the path of the oncoming Sonata, resulting in a collision.
The impact of the crash sent the pickup truck onto the paved shoulder of US-301 while the Sonata came to rest on the grassy shoulder.
Tragically, the driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Sonata sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
