Man Struck And Killed By Vehicle While Walking Friday In St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – St. Petersburg police officers responded to the scene of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash in the 7200 block of Sunshine Skyway Lane South, where one man died.

Police say the initial investigation revealed a blue Honda CRV struck the victim as he was walking across Sunshine Skyway Lane South.

The victim, identified as 83-year-old Danilo Aguero Tamayo of St. Petersburg, was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where he died.

The Honda driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Lanes in both directions on Sunshine Skyway Lane South were shut down for the crash investigation but have recently reopened.

Sunshine Skyway Lane South is a corridor on the city’s south end and east of Interstate 275, with access to several condominium and townhouse communities north of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

The incident did not occur on the bridge, police say.
