ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A man is in the hospital after being injured in a fire that broke out in St. Petersburg early Wednesday morning, according to officials.
According to officials, at approximately 5:30 am, St. Petersburg Fire Rescue responded to 5010 22nd St N for multiple reports of a “whole house on fire.”
Crews found a sizeable garage-like building in the backyard of the address with a fire above the trees.
Firefighters immediately used the large hose lines to knock the fire back so it did not spread to neighboring houses.

While extinguishing the fire and moving through the debris, crews heard an adult male yell out for help. Firefighters found the male in an enclosed space within the fire.
“Currently, the victim is at the hospital in critical but stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.,” said SPFR.
Fire investigators are on the scene looking for the cause of the fire.
