WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. – Pasco Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a shooting that occurred in the Marquette Ave. area of Wesley Chapel around 7:30 p.m.

Deputies say preliminary information indicates an adult man shot an adult woman inside a residence after getting into an altercation.

Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said, “The adult children were inside the house; their mother and the father were arguing. Their mother and father took the argument into the bedroom, and they continued already going in there. At some point, the adult daughter hears gunshots The mother comes out of the room. She’s bleeding. She’s screaming, call the police. Get out of the house.”

Once on the scene, Nocco said deputies were able to get everyone to safety, and the woman was transported to a local hospital where she was in surgery and critical condition.

The suspect then barricaded himself in the residence.

“We entered the house. He (the suspect) was inside a food pantry; he still would not listen to obey orders. He would not come out. He would not peacefully exit. We had one of our SWAT canine units in there. This is when the canine took the lead, and we were able to pull him out of there and put him into custody,” said Nocco.

“Now we have one woman that we pray makes it through. She’s in critical condition,” said Nocco.

The identities of the victim and suspect were not released pending notification of family members.
