HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A man is facing multiple charges after shooting another man on a motorcycle several times, according to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

On Sunday, July 16, 2023, at 5:44 a.m., the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded to an initial crash at East Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Leanne Avenue intersection.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a male victim and a motorcycle lying in the roadway east of Leanne Avenue.

Deputies determined that the victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded and transported the victim to Tampa General Hospital (TGH) for medical attention.

Using investigative means, police identified Luis Rojas Araujo, 50, as the suspect. They obtained an arrest warrant charging him with Attempted 1st Degree Murder along with other offenses.

On July 19, 2023, a tip came in that Rojas Araujo was in Lakeland. Lakeland Police Department (LPD) initiated surveillance of the suspect’s location, resulting in his arrest after negotiating with him over the phone.
