LAND O’ LAKES, Fla. – Drivers in central Pasco County should brace for significant traffic delays starting next week as major roadwork commences on State Road 54 near the US 41 intersection.
The project, focused just east of the Lowe’s / Village Lake shopping center intersection, begins Monday, April 14, 2025, and will involve substantial lane closures, leading to increased daytime congestion on both SR 54 and US 41.
The initial phase of work will impact eastbound SR 54 from Monday, April 14, through Friday, April 18. Daily from 9 a.m. until approximately 5 p.m., motorists heading east will encounter lane closures starting west of US 41 and extending west of Osprey Lane.

A single eastbound lane will initially be closed approaching the US 41 area, transitioning to two out of three lanes being closed leading into and through the primary work zone. Officials confirm that all traffic movements through the area, including access to side streets and driveways, will remain open.
This extensive remediation work became necessary after voids were discovered under SR 54 during the recent US 41 / SR 54 resurfacing project. Crews will be injecting grout into these voids to stabilize the roadway foundation. Due to limitations related to material delivery, the contractor must perform the bulk of this grouting work during daytime hours.
Following the first week, lane closures are expected to continue on SR 54 primarily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. The project will more heavily impact eastbound traffic, as most of the work zones will be situated on the south side of the road. Drivers should also be aware that at least one weekend during the project will require around-the-clock double lane closures. Significant traffic congestion and delays, exceeding normal seasonal levels, are anticipated throughout the duration due to the reduced number of travel lanes.

The entire void remediation process is expected to be completed by late May or early June 2025. Once the ground stabilization is finished, crews will undertake milling and repaving operations on SR 54, stretching from the US 41 intersection to east of Knight Road.
Motorists who regularly travel this busy corridor are strongly advised to factor in significant extra travel time, particularly during daytime hours, or consider using alternative routes to avoid the expected delays.
