The Maine mass shooting suspect, Robert Card, a 40-year-old U.S. Army reservist who was the subject of an intense manhunt, was found dead, according to the AP.

Robert Card, who was wanted in connection with the shootings at Schemengees Bar and Grille and at Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley in Lewiston, is believed to have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, a law enforcement official tells The Associated Press.

The incident claimed the lives of 18 innocent people and left 13 others wounded.

The night of the shooting, chaos erupted at Schemengees Bar and Grille and Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley. Robert Card, armed and trained in firearms, opened fire, leaving a devastating aftermath. The victims, 16 males and 2 females, ranged in age from 14 to 76. Their names and pictures have been released, allowing the community to mourn their loss and remember their lives.

The shooting sent shockwaves throughout the state, leading to an extensive search for Card. The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed his death, revealing that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. This revelation brought an end to the search, but the impact of the tragedy will be long-lasting.

Following the mass shooting, law enforcement agencies launched a massive search operation to locate Robert Card. Authorities scoured the woods, hundreds of acres of family-owned property, and even utilized dive teams with sonar to search the bottom of a river. The search involved the analysis of a possible suicide note found at a home associated with Card, which was addressed to his son.

The manhunt put the entire state of Maine on edge for two days, with authorities urging residents to stay indoors and take necessary precautions.

The intensive search finally came to an end when Card’s lifeless body was discovered. While the search may be over, the scars left by the tragedy will take time to heal.
